Option #1: Short-Term Rentals

There are several options for short-term rentals including: Furnished Finder, Airbnb, Vrbo, hotels that allow long-term stays, and short-term leases offered by some apartment complexes. We'll discuss what options you should consider here!

Furnished Finder

We have had the best experience with Furnished Finder, hands down. Furnished Finder checks a lot of important boxes for us, including the pros listed below!

Pros: pro-rating rent, flexibility of rental agreement length, furnishings provided, roommates if you're wanting to meet other travelers, utilities usually included, often the cheapest option, ability to filter search by cost and desired living situation (whole house, room, etc).

Cons: less regulation (house rules, payment process), possibly less popularity and decreased options; however, popularity is increasing and many smaller towns are now starting to see houses or apartments pop-up on Furnished Finder

Short-Term Vacation Rentals (Airbnb, Vrbo)

Pros: Most variety in options due to increased popularity

Cons: Usually a higher cost than Furnished Finder for multi-month stays

Long-Term Hotel Stays

Pros: Can be more popular, could have some meals/cleaning provided based on the hotel

Cons: Usually limited amenities with one room and possibly lacking a kitchen. Make sure you're asking lots of questions when considering a hotel stay

Full Disclosure: We've never done this, so I'm not sure how the process would work exactly!

Short-Term Lease Apartment Complex

Pros: More regulated (property management can be less flexible), space for your own furniture

Cons: Often rigid leasing terms, often times the most expensive option

Option #2: RV Travel

Another popular options among travelers is using an RV! We don't own an RV and think we'll only be in travel for a few more years, so we decided the investment wasn't worth it for us. But here are a few things to consider when deciding if the option is right for you!

RV Travel

Pros: With RV travel, your house comes with you so there's less overall packing and unpacking. (I think of this every 3-6 months when I'm packing up my Furnished Finder!) You always know where you will sleep and just need to find a park that's convenient for your desired location. After the initial purchase is paid off, you will likely spend less money than you would on rent.

Cons: Less space for activities, significant up-front cost, repair and maintenance expenses, towing/transporting car
